NNTP – TVO Group implements cross-border training cooperation

10.9.2021

Nordic Nuclear Trainee Program is designed to boost cooperation in training between Nordic nuclear power companies.

The Nordic nuclear power companies, the TVO Group, Fortum, Vattenfall and Uniper, engage in extensive cooperation to promote the development of the nuclear industry. The NNTP training program organised by the nuclear power companies is designed to provide new professionals employed in the nuclear industry with versatile capabilities to work in various positions in the nuclear sector during their career. A total of 12 new professionals from the four companies take part in the 18-month-long training program.

The training program was launched in February 2021 and has been made possible during this abnormal year thanks to remote connections. The program provides the participants good capabilities for working in the nuclear sector, regardless of their specific positions. Each of the companies contributes to the program with thematic training periods. There are eight training periods which comprehensively cover operations in the nuclear industry as well as different sub-areas that affect working in the sector, such as

• functioning of energy and financial markets

• regulatory activities and cooperation with authorities, on both national and international level

• safe operation of nuclear power plants

• final disposal of spent nuclear fuel.

The training program also includes study modules related to working in international projects, addressing e.g. project communication and presentation skills.

The TVO Group organised the September training module. The focus during the TVO period was on the significance of operating experience feedback for the implementation of large-scale new building projects in the nuclear industry (OL3 EPR plant unit and final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel ONKALO ) as well as on project communication skills.

- Every network is important in the nuclear industry. Training programs like this provide an opportunity to create a good networking base and enhance comprehensive knowledge in the nuclear industry from both Finnish and Swedish viewpoints. It's great that we have been able to implement the program almost as planned despite the challenging circumstances. The participants have committed to the program without hesitation and actively engaged in debates using remote connections, says Noora Kajander, Competence Management Expert, responsible for the NNTP in the TVO Group.
