Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) has received an updated schedule from the plant supplier Areva-Siemens Consortium for the commissioning of the OL3 EPR plant unit. According to the received information, the first connection to the grid will take place in October 2019 and the regular electricity production will start in January 2020.

In October 2018, the plant supplier Areva-Siemens Consortium announced that it wanted to update the schedule for completing Olkiluoto 3 EPR project since the completion of the commissioning tests were not progressing as expected.

According to the plant supplier, nuclear fuel will be loaded into the reactor in June 2019, the first connection to the grid will take place in October 2019, and the start of regular electricity production of the OL3 EPR nuclear power plant unit will take place in January 2020. Regular electricity production was previously planned to start in September 2019. According to the commissioning program, the unit will produce 2−4 terawatt hours with varying power levels during the test program, which will begin from the connection to the grid and will end to the beginning of regular electricity production.

The commissioning tests of OL3 EPR -unit will take longer than expected and are still ongoing. The final automation modification package will be implemented and the pressurizer surge line vibrations will be repaired by modificating the pipe support, and the commissioning test will be continued. After modifications, the necessary commissioning tests will be repeated and commissioning will continue.

- Although this new delay is disappointing of course, it is important that the whole commissioning is performed with utmost care, without compromises. We will have a modern and safe plant, and we are already looking forward to the operating phase, says Jouni Silvennoinen, Director of the OL3 Project.
OL3 plant supplier consortium is constructing the plant unit under a fixed-price turnkey contract. The supplier consortium companies, AREVA GmbH, AREVA NP SAS and Siemens AG, have joint and several liability for the contractual obligations until the end of the guarantee period of the plant unit.
