Olkiluoto 3 EPR starts simulator training

8.3.2017

At the beginning of February, as the completion of the Olkiluoto 3 EPR plant approaches, simulator training for the plant’s operating personnel kicked off.

During the course of the last several years many aspects of the simulator have already become well-known to our operators, who have already undergone a great deal of training. Every trainee has also already passed a written exam, so this training now constitutes the final phase before trainees acquire their operating licenses.

Consequently, the simulator training proceeds through several phases. Since there are so many trainees the simulator is in active use on a two-shift basis.

The training takes around one year and concludes with a test, where the trainee presents his or her knowledge and working skills. Site personnel must acquire the operating license as a prerequisite for OL3 EPR being able to begin charging fuel in spring 2018.

The site strength in OL3 now is approximately 2,300 persons. The next important milestones will be the cold tests planned for the beginning of the summer and the arrival of the fuel in autumn 2017.
