A joint inspection operation carried out with authorities was visible today at the Olkiluoto main gate

Morning traffic heading toward the Olkiluoto gate moved more slowly than usual this Tuesday. The reason was a foreign national inspection operation jointly conducted by Teollisuuden Voima, the Southwest Finland Police Department, and the Finnish Border Guard at the Olkiluoto main gate. Apart from temporary delays in access, the inspection had no impact on the operation of the nuclear power plant, and no deficiencies were detected during the inspection.

The inspection was carried out during the plant’s annual maintenance outages, when the number of workers on the site is at its highest. Currently, the annual outage of the Olkiluoto 1 unit is underway, having started last Sunday.

The inspection, which began early in the morning, focused on the right to work and the conditions for staying in the country. In total, one hundred individuals were checked during the operation. No deficiencies were found regarding residence conditions or the right to work.

In addition, substance control checks were carried out in connection with the inspection. During the morning, approximately 200 drivers were breathalyzed. The result was positive, as no sanctions were imposed—all drivers recorded zero readings on the breathalyzer.

Juho Marila, Head of Corporate Security at Olkiluoto, emphasizes that such inspections are a normal part of cooperation with authorities. This was therefore neither the first nor the last operation of this kind at Olkiluoto.

– We continuously cooperate closely with authorities across multiple areas to ensure the overall safety of the nuclear power plant. This morning’s inspection was a good example of effective collaboration, Marila says.
