Electricity production at Olkiluoto 2 will continue at a reduced power level until the end of 2027

16.7.2026

Refurbished spare rotor for Olkiluoto 2 plant unit (OL2) arrived at Olkiluoto on Wednesday 15 July 2026. Electricity generation at the unit will continue at a reduced power level. The completely new and technically improved rotor is expected to arrive at Olkiluoto in late 2027.

Electricity production at OL2 has been operated at a reduced power level of 735 MW in order to reduce the risk of failure, since TVO has not had a spare generator rotor in storage. The unit’s full capacity is 890 MW.

As a result of conservative analyses, the unit’s electricity production will continue at the reduced power level until a completely new rotor has been installed at the plant unit. The completely new and technically improved rotor is expected to arrive at Olkiluoto in late 2027.

Previously, TVO had announced that the reduced power level would continue until the 2027 annual outage.
