Olkiluoto 2 returned to electricity production

3.1.2026

The Olkiluoto 2 plant unit (OL2) was re synchronized to the national grid today, Saturday 3 January, at 4:45 AM.

On 2 January, a software update was carried out on OL2’s reactor power control system. During the update, a malfunction occurred, triggering a reactor trip. A reactor trip is a safety function where the nuclear reaction in the plant unit stops automatically and electricity production is interrupted. The plant operated as designed during the event.

The software of the reactor power control system has now been updated, and OL2 was able to resume electricity production today. The production interruption lasted 17 hours and 46 minutes. The power ramp-up will take approximately 10 hours.
