Olkiluoto expertise acknowledged - Jaana Isotalo becomes Vice President of Executive Board in representation organisation nucleareurope

4.2.2025

Finland and the Nordic countries have a strong presence in nucleareurope, the European organisation representing the nuclear energy. Ms. Jaana isotalo, TVO’s Senior Vice President, HR and communications, who was already previously a member of the Executive Board of nucleareurope, was appointed Vice President of the organisation at the beginning of 2025.

nucleareurope is a Brussels-based trade association for the nuclear energy industry in Europe, founded already in 1960. The membership of nucleareurope is made up of 15 national nuclear associations representing nearly 3,000 European nuclear companies that support some 1,100,000 jobs.
nucleareurope plays an important role in, for example, preparation of EU regulations. It has its work cut out for it, as nuclear power currently attracts more interest both worldwide and in Europe than in decades. The year 2025 is of crucial significance to the European Union as the new European Commission and Parliament begin to deal with the deteriorating industrial competitiveness of Europe and energy issues.

There are currently several ongoing projects in Europe related either to extending the service life of nuclear power plants or the construction of new plants. This requires improved regulation. Indeed, one of Ms. Isotalo’s messages is that nucleareurope continues to ensure the achievement of technology neutrality in the entire legal framework. The promotion of harmonisation is also important everywhere in Europe. In the future, we could have a European nuclear market which would secure the series production of safe reactors and components. A key aspect of this is also the standardisation of licensing processes.

- It is great as a Finnish person and a TVO employee to have the opportunity to have influence on matters that are crucial to the future of the nuclear energy sector, and I am excited and proud to join on this journey as Vice President of nucleareurope. Nuclear energy promotes the stability of the European electric system and significantly contributes to the decarbonisation of our economy, Ms. Isotalo says.

The Finnish voice carries even more weight this year in Brussels. Ms. Petra Lundström, Executive Vice President for Fortum, started as a new member in the Executive Board of nucleareurope. She also chairs the Board of Directors of TVO.
