The cause of the Olkiluoto 2 generator fault has been identified – the plant will return to production at the end of September

12.9.2024

Electricity production at the Olkiluoto 2 (OL2) unit was halted on the morning of Monday, September 9, due to an increase in moisture detected in the turbine plant's generator. The issue has been identified as a fault in the rotor of the water-cooled generator.

According to the current estimate, OL2's electricity production will resume on September 29, after more detailed fault investigations and repairs.

OL2 has a nominal power capacity of 890 MW. The electricity produced by the unit accounts for about 8 percent of the electricity used in Finland. The OL1 and OL3 units at Olkiluoto are operating normally.
