Steady Energy and TVO Nuclear Services sign an agreement regarding nuclear power expertise services from Olkiluoto

11.4.2024

TVO Nuclear Services (TVONS) and Steady Energy have signed a collaboration agreement related to the development of a nuclear heating plant, initially focusing on the planning of the nuclear facility’s operation and safety.

The agreement gives Steady Energy access to Teollisuuden Voima Oyj’s (TVO) strong expertise in the planning and implementation of nuclear power plant projects as well as the operation, maintenance and service life management of the plants. Steady Energy aims to construct several 50-megawatt small modular reactors (SMRs) in Finland for the purpose of district heat generation.

The plant will generate heat efficiently, safely and carbon-neutrally, using a lower temperature and pressure than traditional nuclear reactors. Steady Energy was born as a spin-off company from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Earlier in the year, it was listed as one of the ten most promising start-ups in Finland. The company, which is targeting the international market going forward, aims to construct a heating plant built on LDR-50 reactor technology in Finland by 2030.

- Steady Energy is working on a very interesting project, and we are glad to be involved by offering our expertise in its various areas. This allows us to participate in the clean transition also through small modular reactor projects, says TVONS’ Managing Director Ari Leppänen.

- The collaboration agreement with TVONS is a significant opportunity for Steady Energy. It will further strengthen our ability to develop and, in time, to construct a small nuclear power plant that is completely based on Finnish design. The agreement also sends a strong message that Steady Energy’s project is important for the development of the entire Finnish nuclear energy industry, says CEO Tommi Nyman from Steady Energy.
