Olkiluoto 3 EPR’s electricity production will continue at the end of December at the earliest

9.12.2022

The investigation into the damage in Olkiluoto 3’s feedwater pumps has proceeded into its final stages. According to the plant supplier consortium Areva-Siemens, electricity production continues on 25 December 2022 at the earliest. Regular electricity production would in this case start in February 2023. There are still uncertainties related to the schedule.

The more detailed investigation as well as analysis of the root cause continue related to the cracks found in the impellers of the feedwater pumps at Olkiluoto 3’s turbine island. Once the investigation is complete, a decision will be made on the startup of the plant unit. The possible schedule impact will be communicated as soon as the results of the investigation are available.

The plant supplier is obligated to complete the plant unit in accordance with the Plant Contract and settlement agreements.

Information on electricity production during the test production phase is published on TVO’s website at www.tvo.fi/ol3forecast. A market message is published in NordPool regarding any significant changes.

The OL3 EPR plant supplier consortium is constructing the plant unit under a fixed-price turnkey contract. The supplier consortium companies, AREVA GmbH, AREVA NP SAS, and Siemens AG, have joint and several liability for the contractual obligations until the end of the guarantee period of the plant unit.
