TVO and Posiva participate with a strong presence in NNF21 Conference

13.1.2021

TVO and Posiva will participate in the Nordic Nuclear Forum Conference in the summer of 2021 with a strong presence. The theme will be the competitiveness of nuclear power. For a preview of the contents, you should take advantage of the Live-Webinar to be arranged on 19. January!

The digital visit will give you a peek view of topical issues in Olkiluoto from many different perspectives. TVO's Visitor Host Mika Tanhuanpää will accompany you throughout the one-hour event. Posiva's presentation on final disposal will be given by Sophie Haapalehto. At present, Posiva is getting ready to submit an application for the operating licence to the Finnish Government. Sanna Mustonen from Posiva Solutions is going to provide an overview of Posiva's success story and how PSOY can contribute to the promotion of final disposal plans in other countries. A good example of this is how Posiva became in November 2015 the first operator in the world to be granted a construction licence for a final disposal facility of spent nuclear fuel. Juha Poikola will address the question is nuclear energy sustainable and what is the meaning of sustainable financing to the financing of nuclear power.

The Live-webinar is only to be a concise introduction to the topics that are to be opened up in depth in the actual Conference in the summer. By the time of NNF, fuel will have been loaded in the reactor of the Olkiluoto 3 plant and preparations will be under way to start electricity production. The largest single climate action in Finland will soon be true. Construction work is progressing well at the encapsulation plant. IAEA Director General Rafael Marino Grossi said "Onkalo is a game changer for the sustainability of nuclear energy" during his visit to Olkiluoto in November 2020. The theme of the Forum session hosted by TVO is the competitiveness of nuclear power. How does the nuclear industry verify the high standard of products and the best suppliers, when investing in existing and new facilities?
