Teollisuuden Voima Oyj publishes 2018 Responsibility report

14.3.2019

For TVO, the most important aspects of responsibility include a high standard safety culture, a good work community, safeguarding the shareholder value, and the supply of electricity to the Finnish people as well as a positive impact on the climate.

Last autumn, Olkiluoto 1 celebrated 40 years of climate-friendly electricity production. Around the same time, the Finnish Government granted OL1 and OL2 nuclear power plants 20 more years of operating license.

Overall TVO produced approximately 14.1 TWh of electricity last year which is one-sixth of Finland’s electricity consumption. Once Olkiluoto 3 is completed, TVO’s importance to Finland will grow further. Almost 30% of Finland’s electricity consumption will be produced in Olkiluoto.

Safety and good work community are the foundation for all TVO’s activities. Due to the preparations for operation of Olkiluoto 3, last year was the busiest recruitment year in company’s history. TVO Group recruited 134 nuclear industry professionals in 2018.

TVO is on-going the biggest changes in the history of the company. We are preparing for the electricity production of the new plant unit Olkiluoto 3, while carrying out annual outages at Olkiluoto 1 and 2 and continuing their stable electricity production. At Posiva, we are promoting the progress of an industrial final disposal solution. This is all very important for clean electricity production.

This year will mark the greatest individual deed for the climate in Finland when Olkiluoto 3 becomes operational and starts producing large amounts of carbon-free electricity.
