Interim storage for spent fuel to be expanded in Olkiluoto
Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has awarded a contract for the expansion of the interim storage for spent nuclear fuel (KPA storage) in Olkiluoto to Works Consortium TYL KPA formed by Skanska Talonrakennus Oy and Hartela Oy. The contract covers the construction of three new storage pools.
The expansion project has been designed by Pöyry Civil Oy. The volume of the expansion is 19,000 m3, the floor area is 1,380 m2 and the total area 7,120 m2. The total cost of the project is ca. 30 million euro. – The expansion will double our interim storage capacity. One of the three new storage pools is reserved for spent fuel from OL1 and OL2, and the other two pools for fuel from OL3. The expansion will be ready for interim storage of fuel in 2013. TVO is pleased to have contracted Finnish expertise for both the design and construction of the project, concludes Janne Mokka, Senior Vice President at TVO for Power Plant Engineering.
- The idea for the implementation of the expansion project of the interim storage by a Works Consortium was introduced by Skanska Talonrakennus.
