We fulfil our responsibility through high quality and efficiency of our work
TVO's mission is to produce safely and cost-efficiently with nuclear power environmentally friendly electricity to the shareholders of the Company and thereby to create wellbeing to Finland. This says a lot about TVO's social responsibility towards Finnish society. TVO's role as the producer of safe and stable base load power makes it an important social operator.
- TVO's social responsibility is culminated in safe, economical and stable electricity production and responsible nuclear waste management. Our electricity production is climate and environment friendly throughout the entire life cycle. Apart from uncompromising safety culture, our operation is based on energising leadership and competent personnel, as well as transparent communication and interaction, sums up Ms. Anna Lehtiranta, Senior Vice President, Corporate Relations.
The long span of responsible work carried out across the Group already for years was showcased in practice by the milestones celebrated at the plant units in 2013: 35 years of electricity from Olkiluoto, 200 terawatt hours to commercial use from OL2, and the best-ever production result of 14.63 TWh.
- Another reflection of the responsible work based on our values is the constant high ranking of our plant units after the first few years among the most reliable nuclear power plant units in the world, Ms. Lehtiranta says.
- For us, social responsibility means a voluntary responsible approach that supports TVO's business activities and is defined by the Company's values and objectives as well as by legal regulations and the expectations of our stakeholders. Social responsibility work is in the core of the Company's strategy and therefore part of our normal, everyday operation.
Responsibility programme defines practical objectives for responsible operation
TVO's social responsibility is consolidated in the Company's social responsibility policy and its execution through the responsibility programme. The Code of Conduct also defines common operating principles and approaches for responsible operation to TVO and its subcontractors.
- TVO's mission sums up what the responsibility programme is all about. Our goal is to produce environmentally friendly electricity safely, and this goal is the core of the responsibility programme, Ms. Anna Lehtiranta concludes.
The responsibility programme was launched at the beginning of 2014. It defines objectives related to society, the environment and leadership to support the key objective: the safe production of environmentally friendly electricity.
- TVO's responsibility programme contains concrete sub-targets in terms of e.g. safe and uninterrupted electricity production, energy efficient operation as well as further development of nuclear safety culture and assurance of competence. Sub-targets have also been specified for research and development activities, responsible purchasing, transparent communication and interaction, environmental loading, and nuclear waste management.
The execution of the responsibility programme is monitored by the Social Responsibility Group, which consists of representatives from across the organisation, and the achievement of the targets of the programme is reported on a regular basis.
