Annual outages completed in Olkiluoto

10.6.2014

With the completion of the refuelling outage at OL2, the annual outages are now over in Olkiluoto. The OL2 plant unit was reconnected to electricity production on 9 June at 12.54, only a few hours behind schedule. OL1 was restored in electricity distribution already on 29 May.

This year OL1 underwent a maintenance outage, which took a total of 17 days, 7 hours and 4 minutes. The duration of the refuelling outage at OL2 was 7 days, 19 hours and 11 minutes.

In addition to refuelling, the activities carried out at OL2 included minor maintenance work, repairs and tests. Two main seawater pumps were also replaced. Apart from TVO's own personnel, some 500 subcontractors took part in the maintenance work. The total number of person-hours was ca. 30 000.

The refuelling and maintenance outages carried out in alternate years at the plant units ensure that Olkiluoto nuclear power plant is kept in pristine condition at all times. The annual outages are executed on the basis of maintenance and replacement programmes specified in detail for each device and component. Good advance planning is utilised to prevent failures in equipment and components important to safety or production. TVO also implements extensive modernisation projects at the plant units every five years or so.
