All visitors receive equal treatment in Olkiluoto

28.9.2016

All visitors are treated in compliance with the same rules by the TVO Group. TVO engages in conforming and interactive cooperation with its stakeholders and presents information about electricity production to all who are interested in it.

By advance registration, guided tours are available to groups for a presentation of TVO's operations, and a bus tour in the Olkiluoto plant area, as well as a visit to the operating waste repository. In the operating waste repository, the final disposal of spent fuel is also introduced to visitors in the form of an exhibition titled ONKALO.

TVO Group must be able to identify in an adequate manner all the visitors who are taken into the nuclear power plant area. According to regulations, everybody about to visit Olkiluoto is asked in advance to provide the same information, regardless of whether they are Finnish citizens or not. For Finnish citizens, the complete identity code is sufficient, in addition to other requested information, but foreign visitors have to also provide the number of their passport or ID card.

These data were not provided on some of the persons included in the visitor groups that have now been discussed in the media. The teacher who organised the visit for the school was contacted in good time in advance about the missing data, and requested to complement the data. It was pre-agreed with the person who organised the visit for the school that any persons on whom the required data had not been supplied, would wait in the Visitor Centre during the site tour. The process followed was exactly the same as with all other visitor groups who are taken into the plant area.

These persons participated in all other parts of the visit in the normal manner. TVO is sorry for the displeasure caused to these persons, and hopes to be able to give them a new opportunity to visit the operating waste repository, once their data have been supplemented.
