TVO invests in OL1 and OL2 turbine islands

Teollisuuden Voima Oyj is continuously modernising the plant units in Olkiluoto to ensure uninterrupted electricity generation. As part of a larger project, TVO has awarded Empower AB a contract for equipment installation and piping erection work in the Olkiluoto turbine islands.

The project to be executed includes replacements of the original high-pressure preheaters of the plant units, as well as the development of a new secondary condensate pumping system.

- The investment will reduce the possibility of unplanned plant disturbances and improve the net electrical output of the plant unit, explains Sami Jakonen, Senior Vice President, Engineering.

- TVO's investments in the plant units total approximately EUR 50 million each year. For our part, we try to provide work to Finnish companies and this project is also one for which we have chosen several domestic firms.

The modernisation concerns both OL1 and OL2 plant units, and the modification works will be carried out during the annual outages in 2017 and 2018.
