The construction of TVO's second nuclear power plant unit Olkiluoto 2 (OL2) started in Olkiluoto on 1 November 1975. OL2 was synchronised to the national grid on 18 February 1980.

Plant units OL1 and OL2 have produced electricity for the needs of the Finnish society and industry for more than 35 years. In 2014, an all-time [link2|npp2013|target="_blank"|production] record was achieved. The total electricity production of the plant units exceeded 14 TWh, which was almost 130 000 MWh more than in the previous year. The combined load factor of the plant units was 96%.
