Annual outages at the halfway mark at Olkiluoto NPP

​ The annual outage has been completed at the Olkiluoto 2 plant unit (OL2). The plant unit was re-connected to electricity production on Sunday, 6 May, and is again producing electricity for Finland. The annual outage of OL2 started on Sunday, 22 April.

The 3vh2018_OL2_web.jpg9th annual outage at the OL2 plant unit consisted of refuelling as well as repair and test activities, and the replacement process of the makeup water system was completed.

The maintenance outage at the Olkiluoto 1 plant unit (OL1), which will last approximately 33 days, starts on 13 May. Major works include replacement of the condenser and the ejectors, the forward pumping of bleed, as well as replacement of the high pressure pre-heaters, the feedwater distributors, and the recirculation pumps, including their frequency converters.

The annual outage at the OL1 plant unit employs some 1 100 employees of external contractors. A total of ca. 160 000 person hours will be accumulated.

Nuclear power plant in good production condition

Olkiluoto nuclear power plant is kept in good production condition at all times by means of annual refuelling and maintenance outages carried out in alternate years at the plant units.

OL1_vuosihuolto_twitter_04052018.jpgThe annual outages are carried out in compliance with exact maintenance and replacement schedules defined specifically for every device and component. Failures of equipment and parts that are significant to safety are prevented by adhering to a replacement schedule based on good pre-planning. In addition, extensive modernisation and maintenance projects are implemented at the plant units at intervals of about five years.
