From May 13 to 15, TVO participated in the World Fairtrade Challenge by organizing a Fairtrade Coffee Break. The campaign aimed to unite all coffee lovers in support of coffee farmers and against climate change.

reilukahvitauko_web.jpgThe World Fairtrade Challenge aims to have people all around the world consume as much fair trade coffee as possible and thus encourage them to make responsible choices. As a producer of climate-friendly electricity, TVO plays a significant role in the mitigation of climate change. By participating in the World Fairtrade Challenge, TVO wanted to promote awareness of the importance of taking climate issues into account when making our everyday choices. Companies could participate in the campaign by organizing a Fairtrade Coffee Break at the workplace.

The coffee farmers and cooperatives certified by Fairtrade International are trained in mitigating the effects of, and adapting to, climate change. Thus, every single cup of fair trade coffee consumed promotes the work against climate change. At the same time, every single cup consumed supports the livelihood of the farmers. This helps them to further develop their operations and competence, and increases the significance of their work. By choosing fair trade coffee, you can help improve the farmers’ chances to fight climate change.

TVO decided to extend the campaign period by an extra day: the serving of fair trade coffee in Olkiluoto began at the afternoon coffee break on May 13 and continued well into Monday May 16. The people at TVO also participated in a climate change mitigation effort in the social media by using the hashtags #fairtradechallenge and #tvo.

More information on the campaign is available at the World Fairtrade Challenge website.
