The safe operation of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant is based on the high standard of plant engineering, the principle of continuous improvement, competent and responsible personnel, as well as independent internal and external oversight. The safety level is under systematic assessment at TVO to verify safe operation.

TVO's personnel are committed to a safety culture of a high standard.

The basic principle in nuclear safety is to prevent the release of radioactive substances into the environment. To prevent releases, safety is secured by multiple systems. Nuclear safety is developed by means of risk analyses and preparing for risks. Ultimately, nuclear safety is always based on the valid and unchanging laws of physics.
