Pohjolan Voima Invests in Renewable Energy and Nuclear Power
Pohjolan Voima is the top Finnish investor in renewable energy. During the last ten years, we have carried out projects in bioenergy, hydropower and wind power worth ?1.3 billion, and the new projects underway amount to ?3 billion euros.
Our latest top priority projects are biomass gasification projects in Kristiinankaupunki and Vaasa, studies conducted with Helsingin Energia on large-scale production of biocoal and studies on offshore wind farm technology. "The OL4 project, together with our investments in renewable energy, will enable us to make 95 per cent of our electricity production carbon-free," says CEO Rajala.
"At Olkiluoto, the spring is going to be pretty hectic. The annual outages carried out this year and the next will be the largest in the histories of units Olkiluoto 1 and Olkluoto 2, in terms of both work and costs involved. At Olkiluoto 3, the turbine island is almost complete. The finishing construction works, as well as the installations of pipe work and equipment, are ongoing at the reactor island buildings. We are also ready to continue the design and preparatory work for Olkiluoto 4," says Jarmo Tanhua, President and CEO at TVO.
"The disposal project for spent nuclear fuel, undertaken by Posiva for its owners TVO and Fortum, has proceeded as planned," says Posiva's President Reijo Sundell. "The construction of the research facility ONKALO is now at a depth of 400 m, and the disposal depth of 420 m will be reached this spring. Studies have proceeded well, and it has been confirmed that the rock meets the requirements set for disposal."
