  • 2009 an excellent production year in Olkiluoto

TVO's nuclear power plant in Olkiluoto in the Finnish municipality of Eurajoki achieved in 2009 the best production result ever in the operating history of the plant. The combined electricity production of the OL1 and OL2 power plant units totalled 14.5 TWh (billion kilowatt-hours). This covers about one sixth of the electricity consumption in Finland. The 96.0% capacity factor of the two units ranks high in international comparison.

    - High capacity factors are an indication of reliable operation, concludes Senior Vice President Mikko Kosonen. - The principle we adhere to is maintaining the Olkiluoto plant units in pristine condition, and we are constantly renewing and developing the plant units accordingly. The more than 30-year experience of the Company and the staff in the production of Finnish nuclear electricity also contributes to the good production results, Mr. Kosonen says.

With a production of 7.3 TWh, Olkiluoto 1 reached the second highest result ever, and can boast a capacity factor of 97.0%. The annual production of Olkiluoto 2 was 7.2 TWh, which is the third best result so far, and the capacity factor of OL2 was 95.1%.
