  • Vertical part of steel liner ring reaches final height

The last steel liner ring for the OL3 reactor containment was erected in place toward the end of March. The rings are built from two sections welded together and they form the part of the steel liner, which also contains the corbels for the reactor building polar crane.

The vertical part of the steel liner has now reached its final height of more than 40 metres, with only the dome part missing. The dome has already been completed in Poland and is awaiting shipment by sea to Olkiluoto.

The purpose of the steel liner is to make the containment gas-tight.

A lifting capacity of 180 tons was required of the crane for the erection of the last liner ring. The rings are 7.5 m high with a diameter of 47 m.
