OL3 - Current news in March 2009
The total manpower on the construction site of OL3 is at present more than 4000. Polish and Finnish workers still constitute the largest group, both with about one third of the total number. The peak in manpower, ca. 4500, will be reached in 2009.
Installation operations will start in the reactor plant on a more extensive scale this summer. Installation works are already under way in the turbine building and tests will begin by the end of this year.
All the large components for the nuclear island are under construction and final tests are about to begin. The reactor pressure vessel has been completed. It arrived in Olkiluoto at the beginning of January and is in storage on the OL3 site. The last containment steel liner ring has been erected. Most of the piping will be erected in 2009, the first are already in place.
Piping erection has started in the turbine building. The turbines, the generator and the exciter have been installed. The three single-phase transformers, of which the OL3 main transformer will consist, arrived in Olkiluoto in January.
The total amount of concrete poured so far is ca. 200 000 cubic metres.
Efforts are continuously focused on the development of safety culture on the site. The occupational safety index has remained on a good level and the objective is still to achieve the zero injury goal.
