AREVA-Siemens now estimates Olkiluoto 3 will be completed in summer of 2012 - Turbine plant to be completed in 2009
- The Consortium incorrectly claims for delays in document handling and approval, despite the fact that a large number of the documents it is required to prepare have still not been submitted for first inspection although the plant unit should almost be complete by now, says Mr. Jarmo Tanhua, President and CEO of TVO.
- The delay in the project causes extra work and cost for TVO. TVO claims from the Consortium for compensation for TVO's resulting costs and losses. As in the past, TVO will continue to work with the Consortium to get the project completed as soon as possible without compromising safety or quality, says Jarmo Tanhua.
- AREVA has not been able to accelerate the schedule, although, for example, half of the concrete pouring so far at the reactor plant was done in 2008. Work at the turbine hall has proceeded, turbines and the generator have now been assembled, says Mr. Jouni Silvennoinen, TVO OL3 Project Director.
The workforce at site nearly doubled in 2008 and reached over 4 000 persons at its height. Manufacturing of large components has proceeded in several countries and many of them have been shipped to Olkiluoto. The most important single component, the reactor pressure vessel, arrived in Olkiluoto on January 4, 2009.
