OL4 in operation at the end of 2010s

The complete licensing and construction process of a nuclear power plant takes over ten years. The need for power production capacity increases. If TVO does get an affirmative Decision-in-Principle, it will build a safe and efficient production unit energetically on schedule.

    Decision-in-Principle submitted in April 2008

On April 25, 2008 Teollisuuden Voima Oyj submitted its Decision-in-Principle (DiP) application for the construction of a fourth nuclear power plant unit at Olkiluoto to the Finnish Government. Simultaneously, Posiva Oy submitted its DiP application for the management of spent nuclear fuel from the OL4-unit.

If the Finnish Government considers the project to be in line with the overall good of society, the decision will be forwarded to the Parliament of Finland for ratification. The Parliament may either reverse the DiP or decide that it remains in force.

OL4 construction to begin in 2010

The licensing process for the third nuclear power unit in Olkiluoto took about one and a half years. The licensing and bidding processes combined lasted for about three years.

Construction of the fourth Olkiluoto unit is scheduled for the decade starting in 2010. Power production in the new nuclear power plant unit would begin by the end of the decade.
