A short production break at the Olkiluoto 2 unit
Periodical main steam valve tests were performed at the Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant unit on Friday. In connection with these tests, a rotation speed control unit of one main coolant pump was replaced. The coolant pump in question had to be stopped because of the work. However, the pump did not stop but started to rotate to the opposite direction because of the coolant flow. Before restarting the pump, the OL2 reactor was stopped into hot shutdown to be able to stop the pump. Simultaneously, three minor repair works were carried out.
The faults and actions did not have any nuclear safety affects or environmental impacts.
The plant unit was connected back to the main grid on Saturday, 29 December 2007 at about 1 p.m.
