National research programmes on nuclear waste management and reactor safety
TVO is the principal source of funds for the Finnish research programmes on reactor safety, SAFIR2010, and nuclear waste management, KYT2010. In 2006, TVO contributed EUR 2.7 million to the State Nuclear Waste Management Fund, which funds these programmes.Research cooperation within the Environment Pool
The Environment Pool is a cooperation agreement within the Finnish energy industry, intended to coordinate joint research on the environment, to ensure that important projects are launched and to enhance the use of the R&D resources of the partners.The Environment Pool launches and funds studies and reports focusing on environmental issues important for the partners, including combating climate change, corporate social responsibility in the energy sector, energy systems, environmental solutions and technologies of the future, and energy and environment policy control measures.
The Environment Pool is governed by a five-year agreement (2004-2008), and its partners include the Finnish Energy Industry Federation, Fingrid plc, Fortum Power and Heat Oy, Helsinki Energy, Kemijoki Oy, Pohjolan Voima Oy and Teollisuuden Voima Oy.
Since being set up in 1998, the Environment Pool has funded more than 50 projects, besides organizing environmental seminars in the energy sector and promoting cooperation between energy companies and their interest groups.
