Nuclear power plants worldwide
In May 2007, there were 437 nuclear power plant units in operation in 31 countries in all. Their combined output was about 370,000 MW, and they generated more than 2,600 TWh of electricity, i.e. about 16% of the world´s electricity consumption. In Finland, nuclear power accounted for more than 24% of the total electricity consumption in 2006.
In May 2007, 30 new nuclear reactors were under construction throughout the world. The greatest amount of new capacity was being built in India (6 units) and in Russia (5 units).
