Radiation from uranium and daughter nuclides

Radiation is a natural part of the human environment. Light, heat radiation, radio waves, X-rays and radiation sent out by radioactive substances are all radiation. There are radioactive substances everywhere, and have been ever since the start of the Universe. The radioactive substances created by human action are, therefore, not a new phenomenon in the world. Radioactive isotopes of uranium, thorium and potassium can be found in the natural environment. More than half of a Finnīs annual radiation dosage comes from radon, which is created in the radioactive decay chain of uranium in the bedrock.
