Anticipating malfunctions

TVO uses probability-based safety and operating models for anticipating malfunctions. Operations at TVO´s nuclear power plant and its safety are continuously improved by collecting notifications of the smallest near-misses from the personnel.

Constant supervision by public authorities

The operations of TVO´s nuclear power plant are constantly monitored in accordance with the Nuclear Energy Act and the Nuclear Energy Decree. Officials monitor the operations of the units in line with the strict guidelines. The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) acts as the supervisory authority for Finnish nuclear power plants. TVO regularly supplies STUK with an operating report and other reports. Nuclear fuel is also supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM).
