TVO is responsible for its part for ensuring the sufficiency of the electricity supply, observing instructions issued by the national transmission system operator, Fingrid Oyj. TVO delivers the electricity it produces at cost price to its shareholders, which are energy companies and industrial companies that are major consumers of electricity.

The capacity factor of a nuclear power plant illustrates how well the plant attains its planned output and usage time. The capacity factors of both the current TVO nuclear power plant units are at the top of the league worldwide.

Through systematic and careful long-term planning, TVO keeps the OL1 and OL2 power plant units in a condition as good as new. The units are constantly being maintained, renewed and developed. Outages are an important part of this process.

Construction of the OL3 unit is TVO´s response to the growing demand for electricity. The OL3 unit is being built as a turnkey project by a French-German consortium formed by AREVA NP and Siemens. The new unit is of an advanced design and represents cutting-edge technology in its field. The basic technical solutions employed have already been tried and tested in nuclear power plants elsewhere in Europe, and new technical designs have been added in moderation to improve safety, production capacity and reliability.
