Finnish Government rejected TVO´s application to extend the validity of decision-in-principle of OL4

25.9.2014

The Finnish Government today accepted the draft resolution where the Ministry of Employment and the Economy proposed that Teollisuuden Voima Oyj´s (TVO) application to extend the period of validity of the existing Decision-in-Principle of Olkiluoto 4 nuclear power plant unit would be rejected. TVO´s application therefore will not proceed to the Parliament for ratification.

- We had valid reasons to apply extension for the OL4 decision-in-principle and we do not understand why our application was rejected at this phase of political proceeding. The Finnish Parliament once found the project to serve the overall good for the society with clear majority. It would have been just and reasonable that the Parliament would have been enabled to have a say also to the extension application, says Mr. Jarmo Tanhua, President and CEO of TVO.

- We have worked on with the project for a long time, since year 2006, and our Finnish shareholders have invested nearly 100 million Euros to it. I am baffled that it seems to be so difficult to make a major industrial investment in Finland, Mr. Tanhua says.

TVO has produced electricity in Olkiluoto at cost price to its shareholders, Finnish industry and energy companies, already for more than 35 years. Olkiluoto is a good plant site with existing infrastructure for a new billion-euro investment in electricity production.
