TVO has got a draft resolution from the Ministry of OL4

15.9.2014

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy of Finland has today announced that it is suggesting the Government to decline Teollisuuden Voima Oyj´s (TVO) application to to extend the period of validity of the existing Decision-in-Principle of Olkiluoto 4 nuclear power plant unit.

- We were expecting a different resolution. The hearing process carried out regarding the application and various favourable statements confirmed the wide support OL4 enjoys from the entire society and the Finnish industry. The nuclear power project is strategically important. The project was once found to serve the overall good for the society, and this has not changed in few years, says Mr. Jarmo Tanhua, President and CEO of TVO.

- A favourable decision would have been a good message to Finnish industry considering new investments, and would have had a significant impact in terms of employment and economy for the whole of Finland. New nuclear power capacity is also needed to ensure the achievement of the objectives set in our energy policy for emissions and self-sufficiency, Mr. Tanhua explains.

TVO has produced electricity in Olkiluoto at cost price to its shareholders, Finnish industry and energy companies, already for more than 35 years. Olkiluoto is a good plant site with existing infrastructure for the new billion-euro investment.
