Olkiluoto 1 back in full-power operation

20.4.2016

Olkiluoto 1 plant unit reached the full production power level on Wednesday morning, 20 April, at 9.19 a.m. Electricity production at the plant unit had been shut down since Monday, 11 April 2016, for the replacement of damaged fuel elements.

The restoration of the plant unit to electricity production was carried out without any problems and the unit was connected to the national grid on Saturday, 16 April.

Damaged fuel rods were found in three fuel assemblies at OL1. They were replaced with new ones. No other elements were defective. OL1 was restored to electricity production according to the planned schedule.

- I observed with a great deal of satisfaction how our organisation assumed responsibility for the outage preparations at a short notice and how well the outage was executed in a little more than five days. This was an excellent example of TVO's competence and commitment to ensuring the availability of the plant units, says Mikko Kosonen, Senior Vice President, Electricity Production.
