Teollisuuden Voima's former Senior Vice President Ami Rastas has been acknowledged by WANO (The World Association of Nuclear Operators) with an honorary award for his valuable contribution to the promotion of nuclear safety. The WANO Nuclear Excellence Award was presented to Rastas last week in WANO's Biennial General Meeting in Toronto.

Rastas_Ami.jpgThe justification for the Award refers to the valuable work carried out by Mr. Ami Rastas not only for the promotion of the safety and productivity of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 NPP's, but also for the development of the nuclear power infrastructure in Finland as a whole, as well as to his active international participation, for example in the Board of the Paris Centre of WANO.

- This is certainly a great honour. Personally I see this as an award to the entire large team in which we have together worked for and developed the nuclear power plants in Olkiluoto, and the safety of the plants. Nobody can do anything alone, Mr. Rastas says.

According to Mr. Mikko Kosonen, who is TVO's Senior Vice President for Production and also the Vice Chairman of the WANO Paris Centre, the WANO Award is granted on the basis of applications on which opinions are requested from several external experts.

- I am glad that Ami of all people has been recognised for his work. He was once close to becoming the head of the entire WANO main organisation. If anybody, he certainly deserves this Award. The Award is also a major recognition to TVO as a company for the good work for promotion of nuclear safety, concludes Mr. Kosonen.
