Annual outages completed in Olkiluoto

5.6.2015

With the completion of the maintenance outage at Teollisuuden Voima's (TVO) nuclear power plant in unit OL2, the annual outages are now over in Olkiluoto. OL2 was connected back to electricity production on Thursday 4 June at 7.07 about two and a half days behind schedule. Full power level will be achieved on Friday 5 June about at 18.00. OL1 was connected back to electricity distribution already on 14 May.

For OL1, this year's outage was a refuelling outage, which took a total of 10 days, 13 hours and 34 minutes. The maintenance outage at OL2 lasted 17 days, 13 hours and 25 minutes.

At OL2, the most important maintenance activities carried out in addition to refuelling included work on two subsystems, with the low-voltage switchgear replaced in one of them. The two mixing units of the feedwater system were also both replaced.
Some 800 subcontractors were involved in the maintenance work, apart from TVO's own personnel.

As good as new

The refueling and maintenance outages carried out in alternate years at the plant units ensure that Olkiluoto nuclear power plant is kept in excellent condition at all times.

The annual outages are executed on the basis of maintenance and replacement programs specified in detail for each device and component. Good advance planning is utilized to prevent failures in equipment and components important to safety or production. TVO also implements extensive modernization projects at the plant units about every five years.
