Total output of Olkiluoto 2 reached 200 TWh
In the morning of 1 November 2013, TVO's Olkiluoto 2 nuclear plant unit achieved the milestone of 200 TWh in commercial production.
Olkiluoto 2 began commercial operation in 1982. After the first few years, the plant unit's load factor has remained constant at a high international level. After the modernizations carried out during annual outages, the net output of both Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 is 880 MW.
In 2012, Olkiluoto 2 produced a total of 7.48 TWh of electricity. The result was the best in the operating history of the Olkiluoto plant units. The load factor of OL2 also reached a record value at 96.9%. "The record output was possible due to a short annual outage, trouble-free operation and the improvements carried out during annual outage. The output will continue to be good this year, although a generator failure caused a momentary drop in the production diagram in September," says Mikko Kosonen, Senior Vice President, Production.
Electricity produced by TVO is consumed in almost all of Finland in about 140 municipalities – in homes, industry, agriculture and services. The 200 TWh produced by Olkiluoto 2 would cover the entire Finnish consumption of electricity for more than two years.
